Hello! My name is Courtney Wells (King), and I am from Seneca, Kansas. I am a redeemed and restored child of God — a recovered addict freed from the chains of addiction through the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
Before admitting myself into rehab in June of 2023, I didn’t know what sobriety felt like. From ages 14 to 25, I was enslaved to Adderall and marijuana. From 25 to 30, methamphetamine held me in a chokehold. It was always present, always available, and always destructive. Addiction shaped nearly half of my life, especially my formative years. I depended on stimulants just to function. I didn’t just struggle with addiction — I was addiction.
Everything began to change when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter. I could no longer ignore what addiction was costing me. I wrestled with the question, How am I going to carry on? Addiction had stripped away my freedom, my options, and my hope. With it in control, I couldn’t become the person I longed to be.
In desperation, I placed my children in the care of those I believed could provide for them and boarded a Greyhound bus to Colorado, hoping for a fresh start. Instead, I found myself in a homeless shelter, then kicked out, and eventually living under a bridge — broken, afraid, and alone.
But that dark season became a turning point.
In Colorado, I learned that God truly works through His people. I encountered individuals filled with the Holy Spirit who took me in, loved me, and reminded me I was not abandoned. Even at my lowest, God was holding me.
Mark 8:34 says:
“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.”
That was the moment I chose to pick up my cross and do the next right thing. I entered rehab, completed the program, released unhealthy relationships, and began the hard work of renewing my mind and leaving my old life behind. When I surrendered my way for God’s way, He worked miraculously — and He led me to WeCare Recovery Home.
Coming to WeCare removed me from the entanglements of my past and allowed me to breathe again. Here, God taught me how to love and forgive myself, care for myself, and live with healthy boundaries. I learned that to love others well, I first had to understand my worth in Christ.
Through this program, I built a foundation in God’s Word that I cling to daily. I am no longer at the mercy of my circumstances. Addiction once left me chaotic, lost, and broken, unable to see a way out — but God sought me, chose me, and brought me here to heal and grow.
The friendships I gained mean more than I can express. I want WeCare to be known for love and grace, because even when we didn’t deserve it, that is exactly what God gave us.
God is love.
WeCare is love.
Since graduating from WeCare Recovery Home in October of 2024, God has continued restoring what addiction tried to destroy. I have rekindled relationships with my children, married my best friend, and gained two bonus kiddos. We purchased a home, bought a new car, and I have maintained consistent employment since November of 2024, allowing me to pay off over half of my debt.
My husband and I are active at Countryside Christian Church. He serves by greeting at the door, and I am part of the Sunday morning worship team. God has blessed me in countless ways, and I am deeply grateful that He brought me to WeCare.
Today, I carry a dream of someday duplicating in Kansas what is being done here — a program that reflects God’s mercy, restores families, saves lives, and teaches people how to love others and themselves the way God loves us.
In His eyes, I am worth it.
And now, by His grace, I believe that in my own eyes too.
This year-long program has given me freedom, faith, and a future.
And my story isn’t over yet.
