For six years, I struggled with addiction. It started with pills, then cocaine, and eventually fentanyl. At first, drugs felt fun — I liked to party and escape. But before I knew it, everything became about chasing the next high.
I grew angry with myself. I was lost and no longer knew who I was. I felt like there was no future for me and no way out of the hole I had dug. Eventually, I became comfortable in that lifestyle. I woke up every morning craving drugs, and if I didn’t have them, I would do whatever it took to get them.
In September of 2022, I went to jail — and I truly believe that God used that moment to save my life. When I was released, I felt disappointed and ashamed, and instead of changing, I returned to what I knew best: getting high to numb the pain.
At that time, my mom was in the WeCare Recovery Home program. I talked to her almost every night, and she would tell me how happy and peaceful she felt. I remember telling her that I wanted what she had. My mom and my grandma encouraged me to apply to WeCare, but I ignored them at first because I wasn’t ready to give up drugs.
I didn’t even think I would be accepted, especially since there were concerns about a mother and daughter being in the program at the same time. But by the grace of God, I was given the opportunity to come — and it changed everything.
Because of WeCare, my mom and I now have a healthy relationship, and we were able to grow together in ways we never had before. I was also able to rebuild my relationship with my daughter and learn how to be a better mother to her. Today, I have a strong relationship with my family, a job that I love, and a new family through WeCare — people who genuinely love and care about me.
I have now been married to my husband, Levi, for over a year. Our marriage has been a huge blessing and a powerful change in our lives. We met in the recovery community, where we were able to build a strong foundation and truly get to know each other during a season of healing and growth. Today, we are a family of three, we both have amazing jobs, and God is the center of our marriage.
The hardest part of my recovery was fully surrendering my will to God. And the most beautiful part was the moment I finally did.
I thank God for bringing me to WeCare. This program has been truly life-changing.
As Scripture says:
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
